Quartzite & Granite
How to Care for Your Quartzite or Granite Countertops
If you’ve been wondering how to properly care for your quartzite or granite countertops, we’re here to help. As experts in all things stone, we’ve put together an easy-to-follow guide to keep your surfaces looking beautiful and performing at their best for years to come, especially on high-use areas like kitchen countertops.
Granite and Quartzite are very durable and relatively easier to clean. They are both exceptionally hard natural stones and make a great choice for custom countertops due to their scratch and heat resistance. However, upkeep for your countertops is crucial because they are porous natural stones. Proper care after countertop installation helps preserve its appearance and longevity. Below is a list of dos and don’ts to help preserve your stone’s natural beauty.
Do
For daily cleaning, use StoneTech Stone & Tile Cleaner with a soft towel or paper towel. We have the cleaner available here in our showroom.
Thoroughly rinse the surface with a clean, damp cloth.
Dry and buff the surface with a clean, dry microfiber cloth to prevent streaks and water spots.
Blot up spills immediately.
It is always suggested to use a cutting board and trivets to protect your countertops.
Don’t
Use vinegar or lemon juice to clean surfaces.
Use generic cleaning products such as glass cleaners, bleaches or degreasers, as they can damage the integrity of your sealer.
Use grout, bathtub or tile cleaners. Powdered or creamy cleaning agents can dull the surface or even scratch it.
Skip sealing. Your natural stone countertops are porous and need annual sealing. We recommend using StoneTech Bullet Proof Sealer, which we have available in our showroom.
Please note that honed, textured or brushed finishes require more frequent cleaning than polished finishes. Metal marks, fingerprints and other signs of daily life are more prevalent on honed finishes. Most of these marks can be easily removed by using the cleaning procedures listed above.
Any stone material can potentially be damaged by sudden or rapid temperature changes, especially near the edges. Use of hot pads and trivets is always recommended. We do not advise putting hot cookware directly on custom countertops other than porcelain.
Your home deserves surfaces that feel as special as the day they were installed. Our team is here to help if you ever have questions about product recommendations or care guidance.
